Not that it matters much to anyone, but I happen to notice that in two days time I will reach the 30th anniversary of having registered the
rlbrown.org domain with NSI, back in 1995. It was in 1985, just ten years earlier, that the first domain was registered (
Symbolics.com). I chose to use an “org” domain as the best fit for my purposes. Back then, you only had the options com, org, gov, edu, net, and mil. The latter four were restricted, so individuals had to use either com or org. Com was initially intended to prevent the routing of profit-making groups' communications over taxpayer-supported communication lines. As it happened, a real estate group, based in San Jose, obtained rlbrown.com for themselves. They continue to use it to this day. I believe they first registered 27 years ago.
