ex- Ozeki Asanoyama who is ranked at M10E, participated in asageiko at his heya on the 5th. He did not participate in the sumo bouts with Asakouryuu, Asahakuryuu, and Juryo Asasuiryuu, but instead concentrated on the fundamentals such as shiko and suriashi. Towards the end of the session, he offered his chest for some butsugari, and revealed, "I was doing sumo until yesterday. I felt some physical fatigue, maybe I was overworked. I'll be carefully monitoring my physical condition. I have keiko tomorrow and the day after, so I want to concentrate again." He finished Haru Basho with an 8-7 record, but reflected, "I couldn't get too many wins." Although he has achieved kachikoshi in two consecutive tournaments since returning to Makuuchi, he has ended both tournaments with three consecutive losses starting from day 13. "Kachikoshi is important, but things have been going badly after that. I want to have good keiko sessions and be well-prepared for the first day," he said.
