Wakatakamoto new duties

  "Hokutofuji Danpatsushiki" (30th, Ryogoku Kokugikan). Former Makushita Wakatakamoto  who retired at the end of Natsu basho, performed his first duties as a wakaimonogashira . Wearing a sumo Kyokai jacket, he said, "There are still many things I don't know. I want to do my best while learning." He is the eldest of the "Onami Brothers Three," whose younger brothers are Makuuchi Wakamotoharu and Komusubi Wakatakakage. He aimed to become a sekitori as well like the "Izutsu Brothers Three" Tsurugamine, Sakahoko, and Teraou, but fell just short. Regarding Wakatakakage who won the yusho in Natsu, he said, "That was great. I hope both of them will continue to do their best." Wakaimonogashira is a position mainly responsible for instructing rikishi below Makushita and assisting in the operation of the hon-basho. He injured his left knee in March and underwent surgery to continue his career, but decided to make the career change. With a cheerful expression, he greeted the Oyakatas and others, saying, "I want to do my best for the Kyokai." His danpatsushiki is scheduled to take place after the Nagoya basho in July.
