Today,  Isegahama Oyakata (former Yokozuna Terunofuji) revealed that Takerufuji , who withdrew from the previous tournament due to a torn right biceps tendon, underwent surgery in August to repair the injury. He has yet to resume sumo training, raising concerns about his participation in the Aki basho. The 26-year-old Takerufuji was only able to do shiko at the heya in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, on the 3rd. Isegahama Oyakata offered a cautious outlook, saying, "He's currently undergoing rehabilitation. I hope he recovers fully and achieves results that live up to expectations." Takerufuji has struggled with injuries since winning the Haru basho as a new Makuuchi division rookie. If he misses the entire Aki basho, he'll almost certainly be demoted to Juryo the Kyushu basho in November.
