Thanks in advance to anyone who is willing to read this and help.

I bought my first dive computer, a Ratio iX3M2 Pro, two years ago. Ratio does not have a proprietary app with their computers but I was promised that Subsurface would work.

Fast forward, and I've spent the last two years in contact with Ratio, a Ratio service center, multiple forums, YouTube videos, anything I can think of - and still not able to sync / download or log my dives properly.

Mobile / Smartphone:
I have an Apple iPhone 17. I have gone through all the steps in connecting the computer and the bluetooth connection works using the Microchip Bluetooth Data - the dive computer interface confirms it is connected.
But when I open the Subsurface app and attempt to sync, Subsurface is unable to locate or identify my computer. I have put the make and model in, but there are no valid connections to facilitate download.

PC / Laptop:
I have finally have minimal success in downloading dives to the Subsurface PC desktop app on my laptop (I have an Apple phone but a PC laptop).
The dives downloaded to the desktop app, but they do not show up on the Subsurface app on my phone, nor do they show up on my online Subsurface profile.
I have gone into the desktop app and ensured that my Cloud Storage is enabled with the same email and password for my iPhone and online logins, but to no avail - those dive lists are still empty.

I am beyond frustrated at this point - I love my computer but I am beginning to regret buying it when I see that Shearwater can easily streamline dive logs with their app. But I also suspect there is a solution, since it seems like many other people with Ratio computers have been successful and don't have these issues.

Any help would be greatly, greatly appreciated.

Lloyd,

You say cloud was enabled on your PC but did you also select save to cloud?

Folks may need to know what OS you use and subsurface version you have on your PC.

Lloyd,
I'm confident that we can set the second part going for you where you download onto your PC and then sync your dive log to the cloud storage so that it'll show up on the phone and the online Subsurface profile. I'm not quite as confident about the initial download from the Ration to the phone (this isn't to say that Subsurface cannot do it but there are some edge cases surrounding dive computer downloads that I'm not totally familiar with, I can certainly do this with my setup through).

Lets look at the mobile download first. When you are attempting this, what is your process? It sounds like you are trying to establish a connection and then as a second step trying to get Subsurface-mobile to pick this up, I think this is wrong, I believe you establish the connection via the Subsurface-mobile app. What I think you should be doing is:
  1. Open Subsurface-mobile
  2. Click the download from dive computer button (at the bottom in the middle)
  3. Choose your Vendor
  4. Choose your Dive Computer
  5. At this point make sure your Ratio is in download mode so that the Bluetooth is active
  6. Click Rescan within the Subsurface-mobile app and this will search for the Ratio, that should then populate the connection field for you
  7. Once all 3 fields are populated then you can click Download and it'll try to fetch the data from your dive computer

On the second front where you can already download from the Ratio to the PC and then you just want it synced to the phone there is a process we should go through to check that everything is set up correctly first.
  1. Open Subsurface-mobile
  2. Bring up the context menu by clicking the three lines in the top left corner
  3. Choose Settings
  4. Here we are interested in what it says under Cloud status. It should display your email address and then under Status it should show Credentials verified, if it does then that's good.
  5. Now on the PC lets go and check the same thing.
  6. Open Subsurface
  7. Click File>Preferences
  8. Choose Cloud
  9. Here it should show your email address and show credentials verified.

Does this all look right? If this is not in place first then this sync step won't work.

Providing that all looks good you  probably want to File>Save to cloud storage to push anything you have locally to the cloud and then switch the default dive log that opens to be the cloud one File>Preference>Dive log and choose Cloud storage default file. This will make Subsurface on your computer open the cloud storage each time you open it. I've seen people have some cloud storage set up and working from their phone but on the PC they were working with a local dive log and wondering why their new dive logs from the phone were never syncing to the PC.

See if that gets you anywhere. Sorry it's a bit word-heavy.

Guys,
It has been a while (few years now) so I can't remember for sure the exact procedure and in my case I'm running subsurface mobile on an android device so this might be totally irrelevant to iPhones but just in case this is of any help, in my case, first I had to pair my Ratio ix3m 2 pro to the mobile phone via bluetooth (outside of Subsurface). During pairing a pin was requested (pin is the DC's serial number which can be found from System->Info menu of the DC). Only then, I think, subsurface mobile could "see" the dive computer in the available devices. I might be wrong and things might have changed since them, but just in case I think it worths trying this.

Also, back then, for the first time that I paired the DC to my mobile I had to enable "Temporarily show all bluetooth devices even if not recognised as dive computers" from Settings -> Advanced Settings in Subsurface mobile. Not sure if this is still required, probably not, but again it might be worth a try.

All the best,
Manos

For connectivity problems, it's always a good idea to include the debug
log. Without this information we have no idea what went wrong and can
only give some general advice. Instruction to get the debug log are
available here:

Hi all,

Thank you all so much for your help and advice - I have made some progress.

Regarding the data sync between Subsurface on my PC desktop to the Cloud and iPhone app - I did not have "sync to cloud" enabled, so thankfully that is now working.

Francesco from Ratio was also able offer some helpful advice - despite my DC being a Ratio iX3M2 Pro, Subsurface doesn't recognize this for some reason. He found that some Apple devices won't recognize that make / model, but instead recognize the DC as the iX3M 2021.
Trying this, it seems like I am finally able to pair my DC with my iPhone Subsurface app - it recognizes my DC as "iX3M 2021 GPS Easy" and is able to provide a connection for data download with this identity.

I don't have any new dives to test it on currently, but it has downloaded all my old dives so hopefully this is finally the answer!

Thanks again, I very much appreciate all of the helpful responses.
