Info:
Subsurface version 4.9.10
Windows OS
Dive Computer: Seac Screen

When do you think the new Seac Screen will be supported with this dive log software?

If you have one of these you can probably help get support added.

A good starting point is often to send us a libdivecomputer log and dump (you can pick those in the dive computer download dialog) when connecting to the dive computer using a similar existing model (if possible).

I did a quick search on my computer where I've uploaded my dive logs but nothing of that context exists.

Sorry I probably didn't explain myself properly. I think what may be a good way to proceed is to attempt the download but use one of the other existing Seac computers as the selection within Subsurface when you do this. It's pretty reasonable to suppose that a new Seac computer works in a similar way to an older Seac computer. When you attempt the download there should be options there to save the logfile and dumpfile.

This may not work but it seems to be a sensible place to start.

The supported SEAC models (Guru and Jack) are (were) made by Ratio Dive Computers.
The newer models, like the Action and the Screen are made by a different company.
I use an Action and there’s a script that can combert the db downloaded using the SeacSync Windows app, so then the data can be imported into Subsurface. However the SeacSync app is still a bit buggy. I contacted the developers through Seac and the made a newer version a few months ago, but it’s still not perfect.
Anyway, if the Screen uses the same Windows/Mac app, you may try this method.

Hi,

If you have the Seac Sync software, you should be able to locate the divesDB.db file in the AppData folder.
C:\Users\ [user name] \AppData\Roaming\seacsync

You can import this database file directly in Subsurface since v4.9.7

I haven't tested this with the latest version of the SeacSync software, or the screen computer.
Let me know if you have any problems, and I could try taking a look.

Do you know which company makes the new models? Is it a manufacturer that is
already supported?

The CE certificate of conformity only has Seac S.p.A on it, and my Action lacks any external markings that would give a hint other than made in China.
The import cable device ID is a Silicon Labs CP210x USB to UART bridge.

I trade to get a logic analyzer on the pins to see what was happening during import, but shorted and almost let the smoke out of the USB cable.
Haven't tried again lately, as importing the DB file works pretty well, if a bit roundabout.

I now have the same problem.  Sigh.

I've written to Seac EU and US contact addresses, asking if they have any interest in supporting SubSurface, and if they are willing to share their sync protocol.

Good morning!
Any news about the support for seac screen?
Thank you!

It's possible that the computer may 'just work' with Subsurface if you try using some different Seac models, the protocol may (it may of course not) be similar to previous models.

Give this a try in the first instance.

Thank you for your answer.
I don't think it will works because I noticed that all the new computers made by Seac are not supported in any Divelog manager, except Seacsync. I wrote to Seac Italy but they didn't answered me yet.
The fact is that I think Subsurface is the best choice concerning Divelog managers so, if the Seac Screen doesn't work with the program, I don't think I'll buy it.
I suppose that, reading all the conversation above, nothing relevant has changed since last year.

Hello everyone,
I decided to buy the Seac Screen in January. The transfer from the computer to subsurface is quite a suffering. Importing the library file (it is possible form subsurface 4.9.7) is not a problem and works pretty well, but it is not like a complete support form the program. Also the program Seacsync is completely useless, incomplete and a lot of times not functioning and the connection works 1 time to 10.
Is there any thing or any file I can send to helping the developers?

Thank you
Federico

I have been working on reverse engineering the communication protocol. I've made
some good progress already as you can see in this ticket:

https://github.com/libdivecomputer/libdivecomputer/issues/24

In order to fill in the remaining details and finish the work, I need some
additional data from as many users as possible. To help you need to download the
test application:

https://libdivecomputer.org/builds/experimental/windows/seac.exe

(There is a Mac and Linux version too if necessary.)

It's a command-line application, which you need to run with the following
options to download the dives from the dive computer:

seac.exe -vv -l seac-dump.log -f screen dump -o seac.bin COMx
seac.exe -vv -l seac-download.log -f screen download -o dive.%n.bin -f raw COMx

Replace COMx with the correct serial port (typically COM3, but that depends on
your system). When finished, email me the log files, along with the *.bin files.
