Hello,

I'm running Subsurface on a mac (ventura 13,6,9) & have been using sub for a while withouth any issue connecting my Suunto computer.
I've switched to Garmin Descent mk3i & when trying to import my dives, I can only see a setup for the mk1 or mk2.
My garmin, when connected to my mac doesn't show as a external drive so I can't download the *.fit files.
Any ideas?
Many thanks!

It looks like you are running a quite outdated version of Subsurface. Downloading and installing a more recent version from https://subsurface-divelog.org/current-release/ will fix this.

Hello Michael & thanks for your quick answer.
Got the lastest version & the mk3i is now visible in the dropdown but it still won't sync my dives.Capture d’écran 2024-08-25 à 22.57.40.png

For the Garmin Descent Mk3, you will have to select the place where your watch is visible in the file system for 'Device or mount point' in order to be able to download dives.

Cheers

Hello Michael,

once my mk3 is connected to my iMac, it(s not visible in the Finder so I do not know the path.Capture d’écran 2024-08-29 à 08.04.15.pngCapture d’écran 2024-08-29 à 08.08.27.png

I've checked in the Finder's preferences & looks all good to me.
Also, I've plugged my Garmin directly to my iMac (not thru a usb hub).Capture d’écran 2024-08-29 à 08.17.05.png

The device has to be visible in MacOS for you to be able to download dives from it:

If it isn't then I suspect that there is a problem with the device connection, or with MacOS. Does the device show that it is charging when it is connected to the Mac?

Hey Michael,

it does charge without any issue & is visible in Garmin Express.
My Epix doesn't show up as well.
Only my Edge is visible as an external drive...

That's odd. It's possible that Garmin changed how the devices register with the OS, and that these Garmin devices aren't recognised as storage devices in MacOS - which will mean that a specific driver is needed for this to happen.

Have you tried downloading and installing the latest version of Garmin Express? Maybe this will install drivers for newer devices.

Alternatively, if you are using Garmin Express, you should be able to export FIT files from there, and then use 'Import from dive computer' in Subsurface to import them.

Cheers

I don't have a Mk3 - my Mk2 is an MTP device... and those are tricky. They can communicate in two different ways.
One is straight MTP where they will talk to only one app exclusively. So if you have Garmin Express installed, it talks to the dive computer and nothing else can.
The other is mounted as file system through some helper app. In that case multiple apps can access the data.

I have never installed the Garmin apps, so my Mk2 shows up on macOS without a problem - but as I said, I don't have have a Mk3

/D
