After downloading subsurface on all of my devices and PC i cant get my dives to save to the cloud. i downloaded and installed subsurface on my mobile device and confirmed everything with the PIN. i then downloaded and installed it on my PC ( windows 7 64bit ) i uploaded all my dives to the program and decided to save them to the cloud so i could access them from my mobile device. after going to preferences and entering my information i tried to save the dives to the cloud. The small window pops up stating that its saving, and then i get an error message saying  Error connecting to Subsurface cloud storage

Unable to open git repository 'https://cloud.subsurface-divelog.org//git/dbxx...@gmail.com[dbxx...@gmail.com]'. I have reset my password and it still doesn't change anything. Any ideas?

Are you sure you have the correct email and password typed in?

Next thing to try is to see if you can get to the data from a browser

use the link in the output above, but without the [....] at the end (so ending with the first gmail.com). It should ask you to input username and password. Enter the same email address and your password. If that connects to a (presumably empty) dive list, then you know that it SHOULD work and we can go back to figuring out why Subsurface doesn't do it correctly.

BTW: which version of Subsurface are you using on your Windows PC?

Im using 4.6.4. Its possible that i could have made an error while setting up the password but i am fairly certain that i didn't. I tried the link as you suggested, if i use the original password it keeps asking me to re enter the user email and password. if i use the new password that i changed to i get this message

I know this sounds counterintuitive, but that's good news. It means that the NEW password is recognized. You just haven't saved any dives to cloud storage, so the dive list doesn't exist, yet - so you get the 404 error.

Now please use Subsurface and in the preferences ensure that you type in the email and password exactly as you did in the web browser. And then try saving again. I'll keep an eye on the server logs to see if I can spot anything odd there.

please let me know how it goes

After 3 attempts I'm still getting the "unable to open git repository" message at the bottom of the screen.

I also notice that the " take cloud storage online" option is not selectable.

That is normal - that will only show up as an option if your attempts to connect timed out and we stopped trying.

>> After 3 attempts I'm still getting the "unable to open git repository" message at the bottom of the screen.

But that's what bothers me, because I don't see ANY attempts to connect to the storage server with your email address at all.

The proxy server that directs the traffic shows connections from you from two different IP addresses. One starts with 98, the other with 66. That latter one resolves to 'rate-limited-proxy....google.com' - looks like a Mac to me. The 98 looks like it's Subsurface.

I had one more idea what might be going wrong and (since you have no dives stored yet) re-initialized your storage repository.

Would you please try one more time? Maybe that did the trick.

You're the man Dirk, whatever you did fixed the problem. Dives are now uploaded. Thanks for your help and patience.

My pleasure. I'm glad this worked. We have a few thousand users of the cloud storage and for a tiny number of them things seem to go sideways - it's frustrating for both the user and me and I'm always excited when we can figure it out.

Enjoy Subsurface. Tell your friends. Rate the app :-)

Hey dirk, I’ve recently been trying to
Log back in to subsurface but I cannot get logged back in. Is there a way I can recover my password?

The passwords aren't stored anywhere, so they cannot be recovered. I can reset your account and allow you to set a new password.
I usually request confirmation that the person who controls that email account actually is the one asking for it to be reset (I don't trust Google Groups enough to not mess things up, so I usually want a direct email exchange where I can peek at the headers)

That’s fine, I can confirm if I need too. Will I be able to recover my dives from the cloud if I reset the password?
