I recently went to the Subsurface app on my laptop and saw the message: "Subsurface switched to a rolling release model - please find the latest builds at....."

I went to those sites, but I do understand what I am supposed to do.  I looked through the other conversations as well.  I did see in an earlier conversation that there was a link to an earlier build, and was able to click on that and it loaded.  But I do not see where to find the current build to download at the links provided For example, in  https://github.com/subsurface/nightly-builds/releases there is a lot of stuff, and I tried to click on everything, but could not see what to download.

Can someone help about where to find that link to the current build?  Is that something we are supposed to then install?  I apologize for not understanding this better.

Thank you.

Michael

Yep, we are changing things (and actually are STILL changing things, based on the first round of feedback we got).

Yeah, this is very much consistent with the feedback we got from a few people.
As developer, to me this page seemed understandable - but clearly to a lot of people it isn't.

So we changed course, but because of a snow storm with power outage and subsequent accident in my family I didn't make as much progress as I wanted that past weekend.

You can look at a current "under development" page that might make a lot more sense. https://subsurface-divelog.org/current-release/

This is likely not the final form (based on other feedback I'm also trying to bring signed binaries for macOS and Windows back). But it should give you a better idea.

Does the above work for that? Is that easier to understand?
And if you have ideas how to make it better, please let me know.

Clearly my view of what "makes sense" is not a great match for the end user experience - so I appreciate the feedback. I'm not promising that I'll be able to implement exactly what you are looking for, but I'm trying to make it easy for people to use and update the software.

Thanks

/D

Hi Michael.

All good. We are still in the middle of getting the finer details worked out after our switch to a new release process, and making the documentation easier to understand is part of this.
For now you can find some rudimentary instructions for the different operating systems on our interim release page at https://github.com/subsurface/nightly-builds/releases
If this does not help you just hang in there, keep using your current version of Subsurface,  and watch this list - we will be communicating in here when we've made more improvements to the documentation.

Hope this helps, cheers

Dirk and Michael,

I apologize for not getting back sooner.  I injured my back and was out of commission for a few weeks.

To answer Dirk's questions, for me as a computer programming novice (or worse), I found the button to click on at https://subsurface-divelog.org/current-release/ to work well for me, coupled with the note that I would be getting a warning about the software being risky from Microsoft.  Making that button as readily accessible/apparent/easy to find would be the best for people like me.

Thanks for all the effort you all put into this.

Michael
