Hi Chris,

Just a quick one on the custom events.
  • Say I wanted to run a 1 in 200, 60 min duration with specified initial and continuing losses of 12.8 and 1.56, All temporal patterns stipulated on a flood study.

    CStm_GDSM_1 in 200_12.8_1.56_0_0_1.0$1 in 200$

  • Say it was a PMF with 60 min duration with IL of 0 and CL of 1.0

Would the above be the way to go about it (for the 1 in 200)? As for the PMF, what changes would I need to make.

Kind Regards,

Ian

Hi Chris,

I just saw this answer you had posted for Gordon (in an earlier thread) and seems to have sorted part A of my Query. I think I must have been thrown off by the disclaimer below and instead went ahead to try and create the Cstm events.

"Growth curve approaches are now superseded since October 31st, 2018, when the BoM released rare IFD depths for durations < 24 hours.

The easiest way might be to overwrite the IFD values for an event (such as the 1% AEP) with the values for your nominated extreme event and then model the event as per normal. You can even re-name the even using a custom event such as RInc_1% AEP_0_rare$200YrARI$ which will run the 1% event with a 0% rainfall increase (ie., no change) but call it the 200yrARI event.

I think this should still work with the pre-burst features. Are you using the 'Pre-burst Excess 'option or the 'Inject Pre-Burst into Temporal Pattern' option?

The other option is to setup entirely new IFD Location csv file(s), import them and run custom event(s). There is an example of this in the Catchment SIM - Storm Injector PMP tutorial here: https://csse.com.au/csim_online_help/pmp-and-pmf-gsdm.html (start reading from just above the PMP IN STORM INJECTOR section.

Regards,

Chris

Hi Ian,

It is also worth noting that from Storm Injector 1.39 onward, you can access the ARR Point, Areal and ARR87 temporal patterns via CStm events, rather than only via the standard design event checkboxes.

So you can run a 1% AEP (or whatever rainfall you put in this column of the IFD tables) with your choice of temporal patterns (ARR, GSDM, etc), loss rates, depth or loss adjustments and ARF and then rename the event as convenient.

More information and the basics of the ARR temporal pattern naming convention (eg: *ARR Point-East Coast (South)-rare*) can be found here: https://csse.com.au/storminjector_online_help/selection-of-events.html

I hope this helps. Happy to assist if you run into trouble.

Regards,

Chris

Hi Chris,

Thanks, I have just informed our team about the latest storm v1.39.

Just had one more for the PMP, not sure how I would about this one (see attached), should I manually input the depths stated (in the PMP_Depths_Image)? to avoid the error.

Hi Ian,

You may like to read our help section here: https://csse.com.au/storminjector_online_help/pmp_pmf-modelling.html

You could populate and import a PMP template using 3) Get IFD Data >> Import from csv and the sample file attached. If you only have certain durations to run, you can select these in the Durations tab of the Selected Events table.

You would then need to ensure the PMP IFDs are selected in the IFD Location column of the Project Setup panel.
