Hi All,

My pink electric cargo bike was stolen on March 3rd from a bike rack on Valencia St. in SF's Mission District. Info on bike is here:

if anyone spots it. Couple things:

1) I was able to successfully make a claim on my renter's insurance. (State Farm) One question that took me by surprise was "how fast can it go?" I randomly said 20 miles an hour and luckily I didn't say more. Turns out ebikes faster than 20 miles an hour aren't covered - I would need to get a special rider or auto-like coverage for that. So heads up ebike owners!

2) I cruised around to what I thought were usual bike chop shop areas and found nothing. Any updates on where the latest hangouts are?

Thanks
Justin

Hi All,

Working with my renter's insurance as well, I'd like to add a comment on e-bikes:

My policy considers "e-bicycles, gas powered bicycles and other similar items" as motor vehicles; those are not covered. However, it also explicitly states that a "pedal-assist bicycle that has a motor, which provides assistance only when the rider is pedaling" is not considered a motor vehicle, and thus covered.

Hope that helps. Check the fine print of your insurance!

Karsten
