I haven't updated Stellarium in some time, but when I did all short focal length eyepieces now show an annoying reticle. Now by the attached image, you can see I'm not talking crosshairs. This is useless to me, very annoying, and I need to permanently get rid of it.

I've checked
ocular settings: nothing
View settings: nothing
Configuration settings: nothing
Even scanned the install folder for possible overlay image files: nothing

So how do you get rid of this short of digging through older versions to find one without it?

This is very strange. Could you share an ocular.ini file from Stellarium?

That's what a baader micro guide eyepiece (i.e. https://www.baader-planetarium.com/en/accessories/optical-accessories/eyepieces/micro-guide-eyepiece-with-log-pot-illuminator.html) would sport. Never seen one up close and per that page they are discontinued, but I digress. Not sure if I actually help with this, but maybe knowing what it could be, helps pinpointing where it comes from?

There is a “reticle path” entry for each eyepiece in the “ocular” section of the oculars.ini file, but I don’t know how this path gets set.  It’s blank by default.

It implies that this path is set for the OP’s smaller focal length eyepieces.

Best regards,

Anthony Scandurra

It's weird. Added a 7mm EP in the menu, and it has the reticle. Create yet another 7mm EP with the exact same parameters, not there. Keep duplicating the same EP entry, some have the reticle and some don't. Well at least I now have the needed EP without the reticle overlay.

As Anthony has mentioned, the oculars.ini in your user data directory, subdir "modules", includes entries for oculars with reticles with a key "reticlePath" which should be empty for oculars without reticle. When Stellarium is closed, edit this file and delete where necessary. It is not possible to set or delete a reticle in the User Interface.
How do you "duplicate the same EP entry"?

I'll have to keep an eye on the oculars.ini files.

Here's how I add and duplicated eyepieces:
Open user interface
Delete ALL default EPs except the very first one
Add EP with corrected values
(duplicate) Add another EP with same values as previous
