There was a basic one in an earlier manual. It featured a table of useful scripting commands with some examples of basic scripts on how to implement them. The table no in the current manual. Where can we get more instructions for the novice?

Me too. Do you have a copy of this earlier manual? It must have been before 2010 or a 3rd-party item.

BTW for the past decade or so the scripting commands were found online. https://stellarium.org/doc/head/scripting.html

Hi!

вс, 18 сент. 2022 г. в 09:19, Martin Lewicki <martin....@gmail.com>:
There was a basic one in an earlier manual. It featured a table of useful scripting commands with some examples of basic scripts on how to implement them.

But these tables with scripting commands were in User Guide prior version 0.10 and these are commands for StratoScript which has not been supported for many years.

The table no in the current manual. Where can we get more instructions for the novice?

Since version 0.10.1 Stellarium uses other scripting engine (and language of course) - http://stellarium.org/doc/0.22/scripting.html

I am just going from memory but I downloaded several of the scripts at this link   https://stellarium.org/scripts.html
and opened them in the editor and went line by line and looked up here   https://stellarium.org/doc/0.22/scripting.html to learn what each line was supposed to do.

One hidden hint.  To properly read/write scripts you have to open Stellarium as Administrator.

You should not have to run Stellarium as administrator. Never. Your own scripts are perfectly writable when stored in your private user directory as described in User Guide, Chapter 5.

Thanks for the link.

There also are a number of examples in the Stellarium "Scripts" folder that one can modify to suit.
But it would be a help if there were a basic guide on constructing a script with explanations such as what is "core" etc
I recall the earlier version 10 or so, did have some of these explanations including the difference between earlier and later script engines.
