How can I have also Bayer designations for stars in the Greek (Almagest) star lore view? it was possible in the 21 versions but not in the 22 ones (at least I am not able to display them)
Thanks
Francesca

This is on purpose. The historical Almagest does not include Bayer letters. The stars are now listed in the sequence given in the Almagest.

I know that. yet for historians of Greek astronomy who need to convert Ptolemy's names into modern designations, this is not very good. I am using images form Stellarium for my book on Hipparchus and thus I will have to stick to the older version (where one could actually chose to have the Bayer designations or not--so it was much more flexible than the 22 version).
could you please bring back this old feature? it does not need to be by default and it will be a great help. Thanks

No, this contradicts the intent. But you can combine files from default ("Western") and Greek-Almagest skyculture into your private version.

Thanks. How can I create my private version? I have browesed and searched into the user guide but could not find any indication for this.

Have you really seen chapter  9 and it is not sufficient?

I was looking for ‘private version’, as  you said, and ‘custom version’ and nothing came up.

I have read this chapter now but the info are for Windows and I work with Mac, so I have no clue where to copy the culture I want to create my own star culture (intro and 9.1).
I am professor of ancient Greek without any training in programming and IT, so I might need a bit of help,  since my  expertise is different from yours and the user manual is very scanty for outsiders like me.
Thanks.

Then please combine info from chapters 5 and 9.

Without ever having used a Mac, I conclude that your files have to go to a folder named

~/Library/Application Support/Stellarium/skycultures/myOwnPrivateAlmagest

(or similar.)

If this (~/Library/Application Support/) is invisible, I would google for "invisible files Apple macos make visible" or even "make invisible files visible on Apple MacOS".

Francesca,

Making the “Library” folder is pretty easy.

1) Open a Finder Window.
2) Click on the icon in the left pane that looks like a house.  It will have your user name next to it.
3) If you are using a touchpad, double-finger tap the blank area in any of the panes on the right.  If using a mouse, use a right-click.
4) Select “Show View Options”
5) Check the last box in the list labeled “Show Library Folder”.

Now, you can click on the Library folder and navigate down the rest of path provided by Georg.

Best regards,

Anthony Scandurra

Thanks, Anthony! This is very useful (including the corrections)!

I am actually trying right now. Will let you know if I have other problems but I hope not.

Sorry for asking so many questions but for someone who has never dealt with these programs, Stellarium is not super easy (though I love it and it is very helpful for my research).

I found everything but I do not have a folder called skycultures under /Application Support/Stellarium

See screenshot attached. Shall I add it? And where? Just under ’Stellarium?
