T-Shirt Policy

While usually we’d like folks to wear both the badge and DS T-Shirt on shift, like before, exceptions can be made if you’re in costume for the event being worked, at the discretion of the chapter lead/shift lead.

Heather - M/L
Joules - ?
Pete - M
Razz - largest, 2xl?

Business

Materials

Will need to order more shirts (only have limited sizes)

Note: Fire extinguishers that are expired have been separated out in storage.

Pronoun pins (Pip) - Michelle will coordinate w/ Pip. Waiting for color ink to print more sheets to get them to Pip.

Organization
Categories of items

  • Consumables (condoms, candy, hygiene products, pronoun pins)

  • Drug Checking

  • Drug Info

  • Safer Use Supplies (boofing kits, etc)

  • Merch

Merch
Discuss if we want more merch (water bottles, pins, crisp tubes) and figure out how they fit onto the table.  Looking into stacking bins so we have more space.  Will it require another bin?
(also we already have too many things on the table, so we need an organizational solution)

Karl - new lighting in the bins! More space in the bins for organization.

Haven looking into an arch over the table as an option. Bed Bath Beyond or Container Store? Fred Meyer? Things collapse or nest. And stuff that has space for labels!

Running gear inventory? To help with chapter finance. (Ex always having two sleeves of condoms in the gear) Also maybe a Pre Event Checklist.

Another box to store: cables, scissors, blades, badges & lanyards, markers

DS National

Quarterly Leads meeting tomorrow evening, will likely have news at next meeting

FTIR Testing w/ PubHealth

Thru Georgia! Best way is thru her work phone# and you can ask Karl for her number if interested. Texting thru Signal works too. Also calling is okay. E-spectronomy out on Thurs/Fri. At the Robert Clewis Center, Needle Exchange on 4th & Blanchard in Belltown. Downtown public health building - do FTIR, fent strip testing, but also access to GCMS testing thru U of North Carolina. Wed/Thurs/Fri, 9-5p.

Can test everything except weed and shrooms. Liquid is iffy, and LSD needs to be sent to the lab.

Can’t advertise too much, folks get some harassment sometimes for using services. :(

Also can go to PHRA (Fri/Sun afternoons)! Downtown Needle Exchange has drop boxes.

Other

Razz has access to print I heart hardcore shirts.  They will print some and are interested in selling them to people for a donation to DS.  Still working on getting it all set up, but happy to do.  Could also do a new screenprint specific to harm reduction.

Also there are other items available to get/sell from DS National.  Including milligram scales

Razz also offered to provide some S3/DS-branded Kandi to have available to give out at tables.  Shaq and Haven would love to help.

I know people who have worked at several events at the Convention Center including Sakura Con and thinks that we should be privy to what's in the following letter

**To Whom It May Concern,**

I am writing to express grave concerns regarding the management and policies of Sakuracon, an annual event held at the Washington State Convention Center over Easter weekend. While the event has historically been volunteer-run and welcoming, recent actions by the board have raised significant legal and ethical issues that disproportionately harm marginalized communities and violate Seattle and state laws designed to protect these groups.

Firstly, the board has mandated that all volunteer staff sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) for a three-day, unpaid event. This requirement is particularly alarming given the board's recent mishandling of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) regulations and failure to provide necessary accommodations. The NDA appears to be a tactic to silence volunteers and potentially waive their legal rights, particularly those of disabled individuals. This policy not only undermines the trust and goodwill of volunteers but also creates a barrier to reporting and addressing critical issues related to accessibility and inclusivity, in direct violation of state and federal disability rights laws.

Additionally, the board has reverted to using volunteers' full legal names (dead-names) on their credentials, contradicting previous inclusive policies. This action disregards the personal identities and preferences of transgender and non-binary individuals, causing emotional distress and potentially putting their safety at risk. Such policies create an unwelcoming environment for these communities, which is antithetical to the values of inclusivity and respect that should be fundamental to any community event. This also goes against Washington State's laws protecting the rights of transgender and non-binary individuals.

Furthermore, the board has banned individuals from the event for merely questioning these policies, creating a chilling effect on free speech and open dialogue. This suppression of dissent stifles the community's ability to advocate for necessary changes and undermines the democratic principles that should guide the event's governance. This also goes against Seattle's laws protecting free speech.

These actions collectively harm various minority communities, including disabled individuals, transgender and non-binary persons, and those who advocate for inclusivity and free speech. The board's policies not only violate legal protections for these groups but also erode the trust and goodwill that are essential for a thriving community event.

Given these circumstances, it is crucial for the media to shed light on these issues. The actions of the Sakuracon board undermine the principles of inclusivity, accessibility, and free speech that should be fundamental to any community event. Seattle deserves better, and I hope that your coverage can help bring about positive change and ensure that Sakuracon becomes a truly inclusive and welcoming event for all.

Thank you for your consideration.
