[Next production] The Cheyne Mystery by Freeman Wills Crofts

I had this started before I picked up Simplicissimus, so continuing now. This is the second Inspector French novel, but it’d been impossible to find period scans. In the end I found a 1978 edition on archive.org that has a 1926 copyright assignment, so that’s good enough to go with.

Not much to mention I don’t think, it’s the usual Crofts set of a few diagrams, a few letters, and a couple of typos that have been reported back to PG. The one slightly controversial change I made (in an Editorial commit) was with some half-illegible pieces of text from a stamp. The original text has things like:

The middle line ending in …lon was unquestionably

but typogrify moves the ellipsis to directly after the “in” and adds a space after it, which is definitely wrong. I’ve wrapped them now in quotes, so that it looks like>

The middle line ending in “…lon” was unquestionably

If you disagree we can definitely change it.
