I'm returning to Margaret Oliphant for my first project of 2026. _The Ladies Lindores_ is one of her more important novels. It appeared in three volumes, and that's the way PG transcribed it:

Other than clocking in at ~218K words, there's not too much special to note about this. (There is the shortest of "full-page" epigraphs.)

I'm getting through my proof-read, and starting to think about covers for this.

The "Ladies Lindores" of the title refer to two sisters and their mother; the sisters take the central role(s). One marries and is widowed - I'm thinking this John Singer Sargent works very well for the two of them:

BUT, that depends on finding PD proof. I *might* have it, but don't know whether either of these pass muster:

- from 1886 (assuming title page date is date of publication, which I believe it is), and the image?:

If either of those "proofs" is acceptable, I would go with this one. Here's hoping!

Looks good! I've add it to the art DB.

I did find a much larger image of the painting that you may want to use instead.

That's super! Thanks, Emma - I did look for higher resolution image, but failed to find what you found. :)

This is now ready for your review, Robin. Some notes:

- `semanticate` will change `ith` in c23 to `<span epub:type="z3998:roman">i</span>`. ("ith" imitates a lisp for "is".)
- `diacritics` gives  `scène (1) scene (41)` = language correct
- the 1883 printing seems a bit careless, and some things remain in transcription (and even a modern 2016 edition) that are a bit dubious. A couple I've fixed anyway; I've left `paardonable` in c2, just in case it's "dialect", but it could be another candidate for [Editorial].

I think that's it. Hope it's in reasonable shape.
