Obituary Ray Goodman

Raymond Emmanuel Goodman was a GP in Gorton for 22 years. He then moved into psychosexual medicine and pioneered a clinic in Salford, which was named after him and flourished until his retirement. He was an expert adviser to serious crime squads dealing with sexual murder and other sexual associated deaths and crimes.

He travelled widely to, and lectured at, many conferences and penned numerous articles on these subjects.

A warm hearted, generous man of great wit and humour, he never lost his intellectual curiosity in science, medicine, and life itself, nor spoke ill of anyone.

He was a devoted family man and married Beryl in1963. He leaves Beryl; two sons, Max and Robert; a granddaughter, Despina; a sister, Marilyn; and a brother, Malcolm.

General practitioner and specialist in psychosexual medicine Salford Health Authority (b 1938, q Manchester 1963; MRCGP, MSc, FRSB), died from prostate carcinoma and fractured atlas vertebral metastasis in July 2020

Very sad to hear this Kevan and thank you for circulating. 

I knew Ray well going back to my first contacts with him in early 1980s.

I met him last when we were trying to get a gender Identity service up and running for the North West. 

I too loved his wit.

Thank you for letting me know about Ray, whom I remember from the BASMT days. It was sad to hear of his death, and good to know that he is being remembered for his good work in the psychosexual field.

I had the great pleasure in working alongside Dr Goodman in the psychosexual service in Salford.

He was a consummate professional with a wealth of knowledge and really cared about his patients and colleagues. 

He is remembered every day in Salford by all his colleagues and we proudly deliver services at the Goodman Centre, including a still thriving psychosexual service.
