I just installed Spyder 5.0 on a MacBook Pro from the DMG file (not via Anaconda).

When I launch it, I get the following warning message, but it is not clear what I am supposed to do about it.  How do I install the dependencies?

Please advise

You have missing dependencies!

# Mandatory:
spyder_kernels >=2.0.1,<2.1.0 : 2.0.1 (NOK)

Please install them to avoid this message.

Note: Spyder could work without some of these dependencies, however to have a smooth experience when using Spyder we strongly recommend you to install all the listed missing dependencies.

Failing to install these dependencies might result in bugs. Please be sure that any found bugs are not the direct result of missing dependencies, prior

I looked at the warning message as well as my Spyder configuration.

The puzzling thing is:  the warning message may be misleading and unnecessary.  I checked, and I have spyder_kernels 2.0.1 installed.  The requirement is that the installed version needs to be greater than or equal to 2.01 and less than or equal to 2.1.0 — which mine is.  So why issue a warning message?

Also, there is no clear guidance about how to install spyder_kernels.

I could try rolling back to an earlier version of Spyder, but at the moment, that does not seem to be absolutely necessary.

I think that the warning message was incorrectly triggered.

What are your thoughts on that?

The issue is known and it will be fixed soon. Spyder isn't actually missing the dependency. It only thinks so. You can safely ignore the warning.

Thanks for confirming that there really isn't a missing dependency.

This confirmation will have saved a lot of us a lot of time trying to figure out what to do.

Yup, just encountered the same issue on Linux / Ubuntu 20.04. I usually install/upgrade Spyder via pip, so I downgraded again with a "pip install spyder==4.2.5" to Spyder 4.2.5 and everything is fine again.

You don't need to downgrade. It's just a user interface issue.

For the record, same problem when upgrading to Spyder V5 on Windows 10. As it's installed as part of Anaconda, it advises me not use pip as that would break how it words with Anaconda.
