Hi all,

this is a question purely out interest, I wonder why Spyder 5 is already available for download via conda or pip? There also was no "official" announcement by Carlos yet here on the mailing list, right?

I mean, version 4 only is at 4.2.5 and I really like it! For me, it has been working pretty stable, while for version 5, there seem to be at least some minor bugs, see e.g. https://stackoverflow.com/q/66955080/10197418 or https://stackoverflow.com/q/66952832/10197418 - and no, I don't like error messages popping up each time I open Spyder, even though the error can be ignored ^^

cheers, F

It seems to me that, since this error message in 5.0.0 is so obvious and so persistent, any level of testing would have revealed that error immediately, so that it would have been fixed before 5.0.0 was released.  But it wasn’t.

Hello,

I think Mr. Cardoba tested Spyder 5 before he changed the dependency record. After that he immediately released the new version. The announcement might not have been made since a new patch should be released soon and the Spyder 5.0.0 has a
this very obvious issue at the moment.

Kind regards

Hi,

Then I'm waiting for the Carlos announcement before installing the 5.0.0 version  :-)))  .

I'm with Richard here, this release of 5.0.0 seems hasty. If I run the latest dev build, I'd expect things like that, but not like this. Don't get me wrong, this is not to say the Spyder devs doing a bad job. They doing a great job! And it's an open source project after all.
