Spyder IDE text locked or stuck on a single character

Hi I am using Spyder 4.1.2. and Win10 v1809. And I am remote desktopping into my machine at my office from home. 

In the middle of a work session Spyder stopped allowing me to edit text. The keys are stuck. For example, if start Spyder and press 'asdf' this shows up 'aaaa'. If I press the shift key I can change to a new character, but it will be locked on that character from then on. 

I have reinstalled Spyder and Anaconda multiple times, and tried earlier versions of the software as well. Nothing I have tried has resolve this. All other text editors work fine. My IT support at work suggests that there may be a missing keyboard mapping file or configuration file. 

Do you have any suggestions on what would have caused this or how I might fix it?
