escaping smart quotes along with backslash literal inside

I would like to get '\' (a backslash within a pair of apostrophes) in html output. I tried to escape ASCII single quotes and backslash with

\\'\\\\'

 in rst source but got '\’, where the ending single quote didn't get escaped. Please advice how to sort it out?
