I recently created this [issue](https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/issues/8062) and tk0miya invited me to ask sphinx-users too.

It is a personal feeling, but I am not comfortable with asking questions on this google-group for various reasons. I think it could be a good choice to invite sphinx-users to ask their questions directly on StackOverflow. People can then watch the `python-sphinx` tag and easily answer the questions, or search for an existing one.

What do you guys think?

Hi Yves,

Stack Overflow is great for things in Question/Answer format. If the goal is to also have general discussion on Sphinx topics, not necessarily around questions, then Discourse might make a better discussion platform than Google Groups.

Hi all,

It seems no objections for the migration to SO. As a trial, I'll start
to invite users who try to post a question to GH.
But it does not mean we shutdown this list.

Thanks,
Takeshi KOMIYA

Well I wouldn't object to suggesting SO as an *additional* channel.

But please don't force anyone to go there!

Yes, please don't do that!
The mailing list is great, it has helped me many times!

Just to add a little data point to the discussion:

For asking a question on SO, you need an SO account, for asking on
this mailing list, you only need an e-mail address, no Google account
is needed!

cheers,
Matthias

I am entirely on same line as Matthias.

The Gmane group here is gmane.comp.python.sphinx.user and
the server is

news.gmane.io port 119

there is no need for either a google account or either
the google group interface whatsoever

best,

Jean-François

If I can also say my opinion too... What is wrong with our mailing list? It is said above - the mailing list is suitable both for discussion and question-answer. Email works still great and everyone has it. No signups, no accounts, no personal data leaks. I also see SO only as an additional or "unofficial" channel.

This email group is excellent, very active, and led by the community.  If one person wants to start a new forum because they are uncomfortable, great, "giv'er", be the champion for that new space, but this community group will obviously keep charging on :)
