Hey everyone!

Not sure if anyone is still subscribed to this list, but I thought I'd mention that I'm developing Species again, this time as a Maya plugin!

We're still in very early days, but you can keep updated with the project by joining our new mailing list. I'll be posting updates on our progress, some of the new ideas I've got for Species, and I'll be giving away free models and other goodies along the way. Click the link below to sign up:

Hope to see you all there!

Do you have any kind of feature list, video or anything describing what does incarnation of species is going to be like?

Sure!

Our main focus for a newer, better Species is to allow users to create any type of creature rather than just bipeds. With that in mind, we're working on a procedural modeling system, sort of similar to Zbrush's ZShperes, where you define your character's points of articulation and Species creates a basemesh for you. Our plan is to then build all the existing features of Species on top of that framework; all the same proportional rig>animation rig builders, the ability to attach new meshes, etc. All the tools that made Species so useful, but able to be used with bipeds, quadrupeds, birds, or some weird, multi-limbed creature, whatever you can come up with.

I'll have videos of our early tests to show in the actual emails I'll be sending, but I can give you guys a sneak peek at a few things in maybe this weekend.

Nice to hear! Still using Species as base mesh generator for sculpting from time to time. Having it in Maya will be nice!

I am happy to hear that.  I am still using Softimage but slowly learning other tools,  I bought/used Species for background crowd animation.  Species made the process much faster.

Here are a couple videos I can sneak to you guys.

The first is a basic sweeping test:

This second is a bit more progress on a procedural mesh:

**PS, the second video isnt quite live yet so please try not to share or repost it.

Hope you guys like it!

How is this coming along? I still use XSI species. Such a great tool.
