Well, it looks like our part of the valley has the first air stagnation advisory for the year through tomorrow night.  Please keep this in mind if you burn wood for part of your home heating.  Please consider leaving the stove off until the air cleans, and if you do run your stove, please use only seasoned, dry wood and run the fire HOT rather than damped down.  If it get too hot in the house, open a window.

In addition to particulate pollution that can damage lungs directly, wood smoke contains other toxic chemicals including benzene, formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, acrolein, and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs).

Thank you for considering the impact on your neighbors before firing up your wood stove.

I would add, be aware of vehicle idling.  It's a common mistake, and especially this time of year, easy to pay less mind to.  There's some good info at this link.

Yes, wouldn't it be wonderful if folks turned off their motors in drive-throughs?

As a hybrid driver, I notice when the car shuts down automatically, but wonder if I should shut it down sooner.  It does require moving the car into Park.  Does anyone have an informed opinion?
