Range of nRF24L01 im your homes?

Actually there are some of you that are using nRF24 radio. Please give a feedback on range covered in meters in case of indoor applications.

In my case with one wall (wood) in between around 7-10m. I did order 2 modules with external antenna. I am curios what range i do get with them.

You may also use a node in between to extend the range.

If i can not extend the range engough maybe i will use the supernode feature. Thank you for the tip.

Or we have to implement the powerline communication modul ;-)

I did some test years ago using X10 and CM10/11 controllers with very poor results. Powerline (of this products) is very prone to noise and phase-change: you need a well done cabling. I my house (not new) the cabling was a little patched and the signal goes away.

Nice to ear other experiences.

Well, when my nodes were working I was able to comunicate a node with no problems from first floor to second floor of my home, I needed a PLC to get my Wifi working, so my nRF nodes were working better than my wifi.

and works well.

I was thinking of mounting a third node
10m
two brick walls 30 cm

but it does not work.

I have problems running nrf2401 with a Arduino Mega.
A capacitor 100uF is not enough.
I have read that there are too inputs and outputs: a lot of noise, I'll try with a larger capacitor.

Hi

Did put one nRF23l01 node with antenna to my gateway which has improved my range a lot.

My node is now mounted in a Rack which is around 12 meters away.

3 Rigips walls and one "wood" wall in between.

More tests are done, without antenna nRF cannot work ok if distance it's 10mts or more, I added a RangeExtender node to solve the problem but I buyed this too:

It's cheaper buy nrf24 and antenna, I buyed a pack of 5 antenna (6.64€) and 2 nRF (1.32€) so 1.33+0.66=1.99€ the cheaper module with antena I found costs 3.78€

Hi !
I have lots of different nRF modules, and my advise for getting long range is to buy the nRF module with a PA. This is like the SMA with antenna, but it has a power amplifier built in as well.
In fact I have to remove the antennas when testing the modules if they are less than 10 meters apart.
Otherwise I have two modules with SMA antenna and they communicate through 2 floors to a node in the basement.

To sum it up:
nRF modules with built in antenna is about 10m, but less if the airwaves are congested.
SMA modules with antenna is better .
Modules with PA and SMA antenna best. >25 meters.

To get the most range out of them, select a channel that has the least traffic, there is a scanner example in the RF24 library.
Also adjust the PA level based on what is needed to avoid excessive noise.

My ones with the antenna are also the ones with integrated pa. As i wrote above they improve the range a lot.

On my setup it was enough to mount the nrf with pa only at the gateway.
