Folks

I am a very small user of Tasmota but what I love about this firmware is that it can run completely without internet or even mqtt depending on complexity.

So, I was facing problems with my AC which no one is able to diagnose and it happens once every 4 weeks or so and reverts to normal when power cycled.

So, I thought I will put a Tasmota disconnect every 3 weeks at 3 am and have it time sync with my local router.  When I opened to see the pin found out that not only it has no pins easy to decipher and the chip is so tiny and has BK7231N marked on it.

I used Tuya Cloud cutter and it now has what is called OpenBK7231 which looks a lot like Tasmota including the color schemes.

Any idea if they are both developed by the same folks?  Has anyone any experience with these?

Love to hear thoughts.  Picture attached:

As far as I know it was developed by Tasmota users who were encountering more devices without ESP chips in them. I flashed a device with it last year some time and it seems to be OK

Thanks.  This is awesome news for devices that can be salvaged to Tasmota like behaviors  Thanks.

Are the command sets and vars and mem1 etc same?  in other words, the Tasmota guide more or less usable for Openbeken?

OpenBeken is definitely not as user friendly.  My experience is that most functions are possible, but it uses its own scripting syntax that takes some getting used to.  The developer is Polish (I believe), so the english translations and explanations are not what they could be.  That said, it's a great piece of software that frees all the BK devices from cloud dependency.  With more and more of those chips on the market, it's.a matter of time before I have to sit down and wrap my head around how it works.

Looks great idea wise, but most if my tuya devices that would fit this idea have unreachable solderpoints so i couldn't flash it if i wanted to. How do i overcome that hurdle?

By now market is plenty of new product with the BK chip

few wks ago, I searched for an RGB controller with ESP, but on AliExpress it’s impossible to find it, only controllers with BK chip

the BK chip is cheaper, so the main stream is going there

soon we will find also sonoff or shelly with BK chip…

it would be fantastic to have a porting of tasmota also on BK chips

That's a tough one to solve.  The OpenBeken website has an extensive list of products and how to flash them. If you really want to go that route, probably best to stick to a device on their list.
