Hi,
I hope you're doing great. I am wondering if there's a command to set a description to an interface? I have seen some references to interface description, but I haven't found a way to set it

admin@sonic:~$ show interfaces description
  Interface    Oper    Admin    Alias    Description
-----------  ------  -------  -------  -------------
  Ethernet0    down       up     Eth1            N/A
  Ethernet4    down       up     Eth2            N/A
  Ethernet8    down       up     Eth3            N/A
 Ethernet12    down       up     Eth4            N/A

admin@sonic:~$ sudo config interface description Ethernet0 "Uplink_to_Arista_SW"
Usage: config interface [OPTIONS] COMMAND [ARGS]...
Try "config interface -h" for help.

Error: No such command "description".

Any suggestion?

Thanks,

Salvador

Hi Salvador,

I believe it is not supported yet. But you can enable that config CLI by applying the attached diff.

Config CLI: "config interface description -v <interface_name> <description>"

Hi Salvador,
You can use the config_db.json file located in /etc/sonic/ directory to change the description of your desired interface. After you have done the changes you can reload the configurations.
