Fatal error initializing sonarlint IntelliJ

When I open up one particular project in IntelliJ I get a pop up stating:
Cannot load project: com.intellij.ide.plugins.PluginManager$StartupAbortedException: Fatal error initializing plugin org.sonarlint.idea

I am running IntelliJ Ultimate (2017.1).  All of my projects are java projects which work fine with sonarlint (thanks btw outstanding plugin!)... 

This new project that I've been asked to contribute to is the lone exception.  It is a Hadoop based java project fails to load with the SonarLint plugin active (see log below).

Not sure if it helps but when I run:
mvn install sonar:sonar -DskipTests=true

(FYI: we skip tests because currently some of them fail... one of my first tasks to help).
I get warning messages like the following from multiple files (on the console):

[WARNING] Class not found: scala.Predef$$less
[WARNING] Class not found: scala.Predef$$less$colon
[WARNING] Class not found: scala.collection.parallel.mutable.ParHashMapCombiner$table

Even though all our source code is Java, we rely on some "classes" from Scala for Spark (Hadoop).

Hi,

From the logs it seems like one of the files used by SonarLint got corrupted.
Please try to remove the directory in "[project root]/.idea/sonarlint]".
