Two families, Rosenblitt and Doctor were my grandparents and Great-grandparents.My great-grandfather Harris Rosenblitt emigrated from somewhere near Secureni in the 1880's. His son Benjamin came over in 1900 and then in 1908 Benjamin's half-brother Meyer Doctor arrived. 17-year old Meyer put Sekurany, Russia as his home. The others just listed Bessarabia. I believe they left behind relatives.

My family connects to this Shtetl through my maternal grandmother. Her father along with his mother and his two sisters immigrated to Brazil before WWII. Recently, I found records at the Yad Vashem Page of Testimony of three sisters, of the same last name and the shtetl as my great grandfather, who perished in the Holocaust, Transnistria camp to be precise, and I believe they might be cousins of my great grandfather. Since then I've been trying to find more information about them, especially trying to find the surviving son of one of them who has written the pages of testimony and immigrated to Israel, and the town of Securon.

Grandpa and grandma were born & grew their kids in Sekouriany (former russian empire)
They stayed their lifelong there until they disappeared during the Shoah.
Kids left for Brasil in 1920, for France in 1929, 1930 1933 and 1935, only one boy remai-
ned there and died in the 60s but I never could get any information from my father or my
aunts about their youth the environment and the war period. I know a lot about their fight
against the nazis the camps etc but the past is just a vacum.
I could discover a lot in Jewish Gen and your own site but the specific info relating to my
family is not there.
Original name was Horowitz or Gorovitz during the russian time, my father's name being
transformed to Gurvil when arriving in France.

Also, I have never seen any Buckvars/Boockvars listed anywhere, so I sometimes wonder if my family came from 

the other Sokiryany in the other oblast.  It's also possible - and preferable - that they all left before the war.

My great grandfather Itzhak Vaynshteyn/ Weinstein / Vainstein was married to Maryam Chaya Zuker from Bricheni.  Together they had 8 children born between 1891 and 1912.  My zaida Shloima b. 1906,  left Bessarabia in 1926 and travelled throughout South America for 4 years. In fact, he entered Canada with a Colombian passport in 1930. I know from photographs, that he spent time in Argentina, Curacao, and Cartagena. We have family in Santiago, Chile  and close family in Caracas, but they have all left for Florida. 

The DNA testing should help us sort out if we are family.  I hope we are as I know so little about my great grandfather's siblings and am very interested in learning more about this part of my family.

I’m searching for two families: the Frank (or Frenk) family and the Glassmond family. My great-grandfather was Samuel Frank  and his wife was Ella. His father was Isaac Frank and her father was Chaim Glassmond. Samuel and Ella had six children: Isaac, Abraham, Freda, Clara, David and Morris. Abraham was my grandfather. He emigrated via the port of Baltimore in 1906. Morris came in 1909 and by 1913 all the siblings had settled in Western Pennsylvania. I knew Morris very well and he told me something of his life in Securani/Sokiryany and of his journey to America. I just discovered this translation of the Melamed teaching list from 1891 and I believe my grandfather’s oldest brother is listed (number 5) since the dates and the names match (Isaac was born in 1878).

My mother’s family was from Secureni. My maternal grandmother’s family name was Blinder, and my maternal grandfather’s family name was Borenstein, in its American form. Both of their families moved from Secureni to Brazil around 1908. My grandmother and grandfather were the only ones in their families to move to the U.S. The Borenstein family was large; my grandfather had 7 or 8 siblings. In Brazil the family name became Wassershteyn, Vaynshteyn, and other similar names.

My mother's maiden name is Wasserstein. My grandfather was born in Zguritsa, Bessarabia, in 1920. Zguritsa is 50 miles from Sokiryany. His parents, grandparents and uncles came to Brazil in the 1920's and settled in Rio, later in Porto Alegre and nearby cities. There are other 2 Wasserstein families in Brazil that I know: one in São Paulo, also from Bessarabia, and one in Niterói, from Poland. I don't know if the Wassersteins from São Paulo are related to my family, my grandfather never mentioned any relatives there except for his sister. However, he told me that his father had a cousin who moved to the US, but he didn't know his name.

SOSMAN: Maria, David, Jayme (Motel and Liba parent's names), born in 16 dez 1906 also lived in Brazil.

Pipo, Makki, Hija, Eni Sosman, all circus artists, came in April 1930 to perform in Brazil along with 

the other artists of the "German Circus".

Ref.: GUREVITCH, KOLMAN, PRESSEL families

Yechiel PRESSEL was the sole child of Isaac Halevy PRESSEL. He run a spirit factory in Sokyriany and lived there together with his second wife Sara Rivka until they died < 1920. Both of them have been there.

They had 8 children among whom Lea, Ester, Mariam, Tamara, Moshe and Zvi.

Lea and Ester moved to Palestine in 1914. Lea died single, Ester married a Romershtein and had twin daughters. Both buried in Israel.

Tamara : no details

Moshe immigrated to the USA before 1914. He married there and had two children. Lived and died in NY, buried there.

Zvi married Henna PRESSMAN who gave birth to Sara and Yechiel before moving to Palestine in 1934 Both buried in Kyrat Shaul, Israel. Sara had two children Rachel and Yakov. Yechiel (still alive) had 3 children,  

Ofra, Zvi and Yochaï, all alive with children -and grandchildren. All living in Israel.

Mariam married Slioma GOROVITZ my grandfather. He was grown in Berditchev before settling in Sokyriany.

They were slaughtered by the nazis after the invasion of Bessarabia in July 1941. They had six childen:

Smuel, Scheftel, Ghitele, Yosef, Feiga and Etzia. Smuel died in the USSR in the late '60s and the family (wife, single daughter with husband) moved later to Israel. Scheftel immigrated to Brazil in 1920 married there and had two daughters. Ghitele, Yosef, Feiga and Etzia moved to Paris in the early '30s. Only Yosef had children - reason why I am there with two brothers.

To be noted: Gorovitz was the russian transliteration of Horowitz (there is no equivalent sound of H in russian. Within the Paris family we had Gorovitz, Gourvitz and Gurvil (due to successive alterations of our name in Romania and in France). 

NB: Gurevitch is also an alteration of Horowitz.

Looking for information on my grandmother's Securani roots. My great grandfather was apparently heavily involved in the Securani "society" based in NY but I'm trying to understand what that means.
