In Sanskrit, soma primarily means "to distill, extract, or sprinkle," referring to the sacred, intoxicating drink used in Vedic rituals. It also refers to the divine deity who presides over this drink, the moon, and in medical texts, the physical body.
Primary and ritual meanings
To distill/extract: The literal meaning of soma comes from its root word for pressing out a juice.
Sacred drink: It refers to a sacred, intoxicating drink made from a plant that was used in ancient Vedic rituals for immortality and divine insight.
Vedic deity: Soma is also the name of the deity associated with the moon and the ritual drink itself.
Other meanings
Moon: In some contexts, soma is used to refer to the moon.
Body: In medical or anatomical texts, soma can be used to refer to the physical body or organism.
Number one: In ancient Indian mathematical and astronomical systems, soma can represent the number one.

"இறுதி கண்டு உண்மையின் இயல்பு உணர்த்திய சங்கரன் ஏற்றமும்" என்று பாரதி சொன்னதும் காண்க.இறுதி, ஔி, தெளிவு, அறிவு, பொருள் எல்லாம் ஞானமயமான சொற்கள். ஆகும் பொருளும் உறுதி உண்மையும் தேடா மனிதர் ஆயிரம் அறிவு காட்டினாலும் அறிவிலிகள். இதைச் சொல்லும் ஞானியர் வரிசை அருணகிரிப் பெருமான், தாயுமானவ சுவாமி, ஆதி சங்கரன், கடைக்குட்டி பாரதி. எல்லாம் அறிந்த இறைவர், தேவர், ஞானியர், அறியா அறிவிலிகள் யாவர்க்கும் ஆசானாய் புகலாய் இருக்கும் அப்பன் முருகனைக் காணும் நாள் எந்நாளோ? இப்போதே திருஏரகம் செல்ல அவா எழுகிறது. முருகா வருக! நலமெலாம் தருக!இந்திரா ப்ரியதர்ஷிணி******************************************சித்தானந்தம்
