Why does India not use the valuable experience, expertise and international contacts and influence that some of the high-level NRIs bring when they decide to return and retire in India?

What brought this question to my senile, yet very inquisitive (!) mind, was the media reports on how Shashi Tharoor (Congress) was putting India on a high pedestal internationally, as lead of a team of BJP currently travelling to promote India’s commitment to peace and eliminate terrorism.

Shashi Tharoor was the Assistant Secretary General of the United Nations and a candidate for Secretary General.

During his tenure as Assistant Secretary General, he learnt how to read the pulse of the players in the international mainstream and navigate using his people skills backed by his knowledge and academic qualifications, as opposed to our illiterate, archaic, frog-of-the-well leaders.  I declare Shashi Tharoor is not my cousin to write this post to promote him.

Shashi Tharoor was able to do this because he was given an opportunity.

There are many more Returned-NRI-Tharoors in India but why does India not use this valuable resource, I am intrigued?  They can be used as volunteers at national/international events and or consultants for a small fee in diverse fields.

There is a lot of noise here in the USA about the special benefits just  announced by the Trump administration for senior citizens.

When I read this news, my mind went back to my mother India where the basic tax-free slab of Rs 5 lakh for seniors has been reduced to Rs 3 lakh. What a shame!

But who cares?
