The Society for Anthropological Sciences is pleased to announce two summer writing group opportunities.

This year we will be hosting our annual summer graduate student writing group from July 6th to August 3rd.

We are also beginning an early career scholar writing group that will begin July 10th and continue on an as-needed basis by group members

Please read below for details about each group.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Summer Graduate Student Writing Group

All anthropology graduate students (including those starting Fall 2026 or those that graduated Spring 2026) are invited to attend.

The group meets each Monday from 10AM to 1PM U.S. central time via Zoom on these dates:

Monday July 6th

Monday July 13th

Monday July 20th

Monday July 27th

Monday August 3rd

Each week, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Listen to a presentation on the writing process by a seasoned scholar
  • Set writing goals
  • Receive peer feedback on written work
  • Work on individual writing projects in a supportive atmosphere

The group is free to attend for graduate students. Please share broadly with your networks and departments.

For questions or to express interest, email Randy Arnold (arno...@crimson.ua.edu).

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………….

Early Career Scholar Writing Group

This group is open to scholars that have completed their doctorate within the last five years, regardless of the position (tenure track, post doc, independent, industry).

The group will meet each Friday 12PM-1PM U.S. Central time beginning July 10th. This group will meet throughout the summer. In the Fall the time will be adjusted to meet the needs of group members during the academic semester.

The format and focus of the group will be based on participant needs but will include:

  • Work on individual writing projects in a supportive atmosphere
  • Giving and receiving peer feedback
  • Visits from seasoned scholars for workshopping common writing struggles

All individuals that have received a Ph.D. in Anthropology (or closely related field) within the last five years are invited to attend. Please share broadly with your networks and departments.

Please reach out to Liz Bingham Thomas (ebth...@byu.edu) for more information.

I would like to recommend the workbook:
WRITING YOUR JOURNAL ARTICLE IN 12 WEEKS.
It's super for faculty & students, esp in a semester writing class.
