I sent LP a picture of the Angela. Just couldn't resist bragging about my new toy. Of course, he one-ups me with this beauty. Looks to be a 3-meter Salto. Anyway, he wants me to let him know next time I go flying. I guess he's in town.

It's not possible to fly in a sailplane that is named "Connie." "Connie" is a nickname for the Lockheed Constellation, a historic airliner, not a sailplane. The Constellation was a popular and influential aircraft, but it was not designed for gliding. [1, 1, 2, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6]

Here's why "Connie" isn't a sailplane:
  • "Connie" refers to the Lockheed Constellation: This is a type of fixed-wing aircraft, specifically a four-engine airliner known for its distinctive shape and long-range capabilities. [1, 1, 4, 7, 8, 9, 10]
  • Sailplanes are unpowered aircraft: Sailplanes, also known as gliders, rely on soaring in air currents rather than engines for flight. [11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16]
  • "Connie" is a nickname: The name "Connie" was a nickname for the Constellation, reflecting its appearance and widespread use. [1, 1, 3, 3]
If you're interested in flying sailplanes, you'll need to find a sailplane manufacturer and model that suits your needs. Popular options include: [11, 11, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21]
  • Hess-Lammel: This type of sailplane is designed for high-performance gliding and competition.
  • Krupp: This type of sailplane is designed for speed and maneuverability.
  • Riehl: This type of sailplane is designed for ease of use and affordability.
If you're looking for information about flying sailplanes, you can find resources online, including:
  • The National Air and Space Museum: The National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C., has a collection of gliders and information about their history. [1, 1, 11, 11, 22]
  • The Wright Brothers National Memorial: The Wright Brothers National Memorial in North Carolina honors the inventors of the airplane and has exhibits about early gliders and flight. [12, 12, 23]

It looks like we need to put together a scale aerotow-in so that LP can try out his new bird.

I’m guessing Connie’s is 1-1 scale?

Ernie Buenafes' wife has a nick name of "Connie", and has a full scale Salto...so it is a matter of perspectiveEmoji
