Good Evening, SNOW Clubbers and potential SNOW Clubbers!
I hope you are enjoying the beautiful summer day!
I wanted to just let you know where we are in terms of planning and give you a couple of reminders.
1) AFFILIATE!! For those of you who haven’t yet, we are in the early-bird phase of NCFCA affiliation. If you KNOW you’re planning to join us this year, you might as well affiliate at a discount! For potential SNOW Clubbers, affiliation is a requirement for club participation because we require ONE tournament (at a minimum). You cannot compete if you are not affiliated. There are a number of benefits that go with NCFCA affiliation, but I won’t detail them here (and you probably wouldn’t want to read it!). Current SNOW Clubbers, why not tick that off your to-do list now? You can do so here: https://shop.ncfca.org/product/1023/2023-Family-Affiliation.
2) We are blessed to be returning to Bethany Covenant Church in Bedford for our club meetings this year. We will continue with almost the same time frame with Speech and Debate alternating. Speech weeks will be 1:30-5:00 and include Apologetics (optional) for one hour and Debate weeks will be 3:00-5:00 (as of now). These times may be tweaked as teachers put things together.
3) We will have some changes in leadership this year and covet your prayers as we put things in place. We are excited to see how God will provide as He always has, and excited to see who is willing to step out and be blessed by and for this wonderful service!
Which leads me to…
4) Our irreplaceable Julia Brousseau is moving full-time into a ministry endeavour that will take her to Boston. As such, she has to step away from Juniors (😭). While this is bittersweet for her and for us (and we knew this day would inevitably come), we thank God for her incredible service to SNOW Club and will be praying that God prepares the harvest ahead of her. This leaves one rather large, GAPING hole. If you have a Junior-aged student—or even if you don’t, but your heart is being tugged--would you be praying about the opportunity to take this on? We have resources available and I am happy to talk through what it entails and I am certain Julia would be happy to fill you in as well before she moves.
5) Our kickoff meeting is scheduled for Monday, August 29th at 3:00, which gives us a first meeting day (Speech and Apologetics) of September 12th. PLEASE COME to the kickoff meeting and invite whomever you feel might be even remotely interested. This is “information dump” day and it is a great opportunity to meet other families, new and experienced, meet leaders and coaches, and see samples of what we do.
6) We strongly encourage you to take advantage of the online intensives that are being offered by NCFCA again this summer. They take place next week—July 19-22. There are individual one-day workshops for Policy Debate, Value Debate, Biblical Presentation and After Dinner Speaking in that order. The debate intensives will help you dive into the resolutions (and have guided research and discussion), and with regard to the two speech options, there are significant changes to the rules for those two events. The intensives are a great way to either get a jump on the season, or see if they are for you! You may sign up for any or all here: https://shop.ncfca.org/productlist?__s=xyezume23coqsupp3vyz.
There will be further updates as they become available. We are excited to see how SNOW Club shapes up this year!
God Bless!
~Mrs/Heather Murch
