Have you tried putting the phone into DFU mode and a restore in iTunes?

Good morning Smuggers,

I thought that before I commit to an expensive repair with Apple I would ask the group if they had any ideas. I've spent the week-end trying to recover my phone 8 plus without success. During the process I have had several error 53's one error 75 three errors 2015 reporting "framework version is insufficient to install the OS, Failed to restore device to recovery mode libusbrestore error: 2015.

i have a back up of my phone with imazing so having the phone totally deleted was an option I went with but still no response. I have removed anything that can be removed cleaned and replaced it. I've done the so called HARD restart several times too. Ive tried it with the USB attached direct to the computer. Tried it with USB cable attached direct to a second computer. I've had the cable attached to a USB hub and I have tried with a couple of totally new lightning to USB cables.I've restarted my Mac a few times as well just for good measure!

I have followed every instruction I can to be found on the internet. All the advice sites and every variation that is published but I continue to have no response.

Prior to these endeavours the phone has not been dropped or had any knocks whatsoever. The problems started so far as I can remember last Friday trying to update to latest OS with iTunes (latest version) My MacPro is a little old but is running OS 10.11.6 and the previous update system requirements were 10.11.4 so it should be OK. I haven't been able to revert to an earlier OS version although I did try but again without success. I can get iTunes to start downloading software for the phone but it never has got beyond the half way mark on the phone screen.

Do you think it is a hardware fault? Is it more likely to be a software glitch? If the phone was close to its 256GB capacity surely the delete option would have resolved that issue??

I am at hair pulling out stage and really at my wits end to have to consider sending the phone away to Apple but there it is guys....has anyone got an idea that would resolve this issue or am I simply going to have to dig deep and get Apple to take it on?? Your help much appreciated of course....t

hank you.....Tony

Hi Sam,

Long time no talk! Hope you and yours are alright in these difficult and strange times!

Thank you for responding o the SMUG site. I haven’t tried the DFU and looking at it now it seems like a last ditch effort….which I’m inclined to think it is BTW.

I contacted good old Apple Support. They were as helpful as they could be but after several of their genius’s looked at what I had tried already they declared an irreversible hardware fault or series of faults and despite my pleading refused to offer any good will gestures in the purchase of a replacement phone! BTW they ant £400 for a replacement refurb. iphone 8 Plus…so I’m in a quandary because the new 12 and 12 Pro are due out fairly soon so it seems a waste of a great deal of my pension to purchase an 11 !! Perhaps I should look for a provider that will allow an early upgrade pathway but whatever I think my days of buying SIM only iphones are at an end.

I shall try the DFU route later today or tomorrow….I’m pretty wacked from scurrying around trying to find things out….our 3 year old telly packed up today as well (just our luck) and there is no repair route nowadays other than the manufacturers appointed option but as things are at the moment with COVID getting an engineer here is like trying to hand feed a tiger without getting bit!!

Anyway we plod on. Good to hear you are still about and COVID hasn’t got you…

I’ll report back once I’ve tried the DFU last stand option! Thanks again for the steer.

very best wishes,

Tony Phillips

Ongoing saga....the iphone 8 is officially beyond repair and was more or less forced into moving on! Enter stage left the iphone 11 Pro Max on the 7th July. Today I am still trying to get it to work properly. Apple Support have tried bless 'em but we haven't moved off the problem at all. Sky (my new provider) offers virtually nothing in the way of practical help. All I managed with them was to confirm the network settings were correct. Apple Support don't have an answer either and now I have to be careful because there is a warranty that must not be voided! I set the phone up following the apple commands. I then downloaded a back up of mine from iCloud. Apps icons only downloaded but no apps! Music through iTunes downloaded alright. However, I can't use the phone because it refuses to accept my Apple ID. I have changed it a couple of times with the same result. It works perfectly well on my computer and ipad but no verification on the iphone and so I cannot set the phone up with any degree of accuracy! I need to turn off find my iphone to even have a chance of a restore on iTunes but of course no apple ID no chance of turning that off and starting afresh.

I would truly welcome some advice as to what to do next please...anyone??? Thank you all.
