'Network Preferences and Loading Remote Content in Mail (Monterey)

Hi everyone

Not the most Christmassy of requests, but I'm struggling with Apple Mail.

Any email with a graphic shows, blanks the graphic and shows the following message:

'Your network preferences prevent content from loading privately.' 

There's then a button 'Load Content Directly' to click.

It's a pain.

When I go to Mail/Preferences/Privacy, I can tinker with 'Protect Mail Activity' etc, but it makes no difference.

I do also have MailTrackerBlocker plugin installed, but it's currently inactive to see if there's a clash.

Others on other forums cite this problem, and only solution been a clean Monterey install. I'm loathed to do this. 

Any ideas? Any hidden preferences or cache I can find and bin?

Does the email content load after you click the second button? I’m seeing the same thing if I’m not connected to a VPN at the time

Thanks Sam, yes it does load.

Which is fine, but wondering why the extra step? Is it all to do with the privacy stuff and spy pixels and loading remote content etc etc?
