Good morning,

I’m hoping someone has a suggestion to the strange behaviour my Mac mini M1 has been displaying recently. In certain apps (mainly Safari and finder) a blue rectangle appears around the section I’m working in. In finder a blue square appears around certain desk top icons and disappears when I click on the desk top itself.

Also I sometimes can’t type spaces sotextappearslikethis. It’s usually in Safari but some other apps (Twitter & Evernote mainly) behave the same way.

I’ve been hoping to get a screenshot but, of course, the Mac has behaved perfectly today.

I’m running the latest version of Ventura.

Regards
Philippe

The blue box could be VoiceOver for visually impaired people. Try looking in System Settings > Accessibility > VoiceOver
_

Rather wild guess – what's the RAM usage like? I have an 8gb MI Mac Mini and it does start stuttering slightly when RAM is under pressure (you can watch this in Activity Monitor).

(Note to anyone buying one - if you use more than a few apps, get 16+!)

Cheers,
J

Hi Jason,

I think the RAM usage is ca. 10 Gb (see attached screenshot). Is that too much?

Green is good! (bottom left, memory pressure)

Amber is ok.

Red...start closing Safari tabs, quickly.

I think Sam was almost certainly right about the source of the issue - did that work out?

cheers,
J

Hi Jason,

I checked the accessibility settings and Voiceover and Voice Control were switched off. What’s odd is that it doesn’t always happen. It tends to occur after whichever app I’m using has been on for a while.
