Hi all,

I'd like to buy a webcam for my Macobbok connected to a big screen. It doesn't need to be cinema quality but I don't want it to be rubbish either. Do I really need to spend at least £99.00?

Any recommendations welcome - and happy to pay a proper price for a really good camera - but it's only for speaking so the audio doesn't need to be fancy.

TIA

Rob

I asked this recently somewhere else and most of the answers involve Logitech and about that price range (or more). A common comment was not to go cheap. But I have not yet bought one (spent all my money).

Depending on what you want to use it with, there are some things that allow you to use an iPhone camera (for instance, zoom). It’s worth googling that to see if the relevant applications are the ones you’re going to be using (it doesn’t work on teams, however). (Epocam was one, I think).

Thanks,

-Jason

Logitech B525, maybe, if you can get one at a reasonable price. Manufacturer information (archived) <https://web.archive.org/web/20200629020719/https://www.logitech.com/en-gb/product/b525-webcam> – one omni-directional microphone, "Full HD 1080p video calling (up to 1920 x 1080 pixels); 720p HD video calling (up to 1280 x 720 pixels) with supported clients". More recent information at <https://prosupport.logi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360040084553>.

<https://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/webcams/0001043997-00000001> great price but none in stock. "2617 expected on 06/06/2056" (don't laugh); a colleague at work is liaising with the account manager at Insight with a view to a more realistic date (maybe December) for an order that we placed in October.

<https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Logitech+B525> available but much more costly.

Logitech C925e <https://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/audio-video-conferencing/0006271401> available and reasonably priced, I guess. It's a webcam, but <https://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/searchresults/peripherals/webcams> not classified as such by Insight.

<https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Logitech+C925e>

JLC 1080p <https://www.uk.insight.com/en-gb/productinfo/webcams/0010513892> I'm told that there are fewer supply chain difficulties however the microphone has been described, to me, as poor.

At a glance, only one JLC product on Amazon, <https://www.amazon.co.uk/JLC-Degree-Rotating-Webcam-Microphone/dp/B08B8P1ZZC>

We have a Logitech C920 that sits on top of our 4K TV connected to our Mac using the TV as a monitor. Mostly used for family video calls and occasionally tech support. Those at the other end say the 1080p video quality is in focus and well lit and sound is clear. We chose it as the one with a glass lens at lowest price. May now be called C922.

Thanks Tony. Benn looking at both. Doesn’t seem to be a huge difference between them spec-wise.
