macOS updates

Sam probably knows the answer to this but it seems that the update process is identical to that for iOS? Download, prepare, verify, update, etc. Not sure if this is for M1 Macs only. Seems to account for why the update process takes so long these days.

Sometimes I begin thinking the update has stalled.

Sometimes there’s a firmware update in there too. I’d rather the install takes longer to get everything right than rush it though. I can’t find the original question in my email, but macOS updates have for a while downloaded, then restarted to install, with a progress bar under the apple logo and a rough time estimate.
