Some advice please SMUGGERS...

I’m running low on hard disk space and I suspect (well, I know actually) that I’m storing an awful lot of dusty old useless and redundant files and apps that I really don’t need and that could be deleted. But finding them, that’s the thing. I know there’s a few apps out there aimed helping with this sort of job but I don’t know if they’re any good, or even to be trusted, so can any of you lovely people recommend something?

Cheers
Phil

Places to check would be :

~ is your home folder

~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backups - people tend to have old iOS device backups in here which take up loads of space, all safe to delete if you don’t need those particular backups
~/Library/Containers/Mail/Data/Library/Logs/Mail - if you have connection logging enabled in Mail’s Connection Doctor, you can build up multiple gigabytes of log files here, all safe to delete

There’s a utility called Gemini but personally I wouldn’t trust software to delete the correct files

I’ve used Daisy Disk for years and it’s really helpful and simple to use. A good ‘un.

+1 for the folders Sam mentioned AND DaisyDisk. It's superb at showing where the bloat hides!
