Evening SMUGS

Since the impending arrival of Catalina (which I can’t see myself updating to for quite a while), I’ve been plagued by the random appearance of notifications that particular apps or plugins, “will not work with future versions of macOS” (presumably ‘cause they're 32 bit). The thing is though, more often that not, the notification refers to an app or plugin that I didn’t even know I had installed and then don’t show up when I do a search.

So is there any way of identifying all the 32 bit apps and plugins and then deciding which ones to keep and which ones to trash?

Ta
Phil

Hi Phil,
I have updated to Catalina so this may not be relevant but I’ll share it anyway.
If you click on the apple symbol top left and then About this Mac. Then choose System report. There an item in the software section called Legacy Software which lists 32 bit apps I still have on my MBA.
Hope that helps a little.
Nick

One way is to launch Activity Monitor from the Applications/Utilities folder and ensure it has a column showing 32/64 bit and then sort by that column.

One app I have, Doxie scanner software was a 64 bit app but had a 32bit helper app. Thankfully they updated it the day Catalina was released.
