macOS animations

Morning all

I no longer get any animation when I open/close files from the Finder. Previously the file icon would gently and subtly 'expand' so as to show it had registered the double click and then the App would load. Now, there's no indication unless I reveal the dock and see the App icon bouncing.

Has it gone for good, or a new setting that defaults to 'off'?

I really like such visual cues and affordances.

Any tips or tricks please?
