Hi. I’ve just taken some photos using my new iPhone XR and when I tried to edit one in Photos on my (rather old) iMac I got this message

I never had this when I took photos on my iPhone SE.  The iMac won’t update nay more - it there anything that I can do to work around this?

Thank you!

Andrew

The modern iPhones use the HEIC format for images. Which model of Mac do you have and which version of macOS.

If you can’t upgrade any further, you can set the phone to use jpg. Go to Settings > Camera > Formats > Most Compatible

Try this, on your iPhone: Settings > Camera > Formats - tick Most Compatible – see if the pics taken after that can be opened.

Cheers,
Derek

It’s a 2011 iMac. I’m not sure what OS it is using but I know that it is as up to date as it can be ...
