Rotating an email

Morning Smuggers,

I am still trying to discover how to rotate an incoming “landscape” email to make it “portrait”. Most of the help available on the internet talks about the need, first of all, to make sure the “Rotation Lock” is switched off. But where is the Rotation Lock? I can’t find it anywhere and I am beginning to think its absence is a fault in my iPad and/or iMac, or in Big Sur.

I would be interested in any comments.

In the Control Centre - look for icon that is a circular arrow with a padlock inside

Access Control Centre by swiping down from top right hand corner of your iPad

Thanks for your help, Tony. But actually I have been there and done that already. We have searched through every single one of the various icons in the Control Centre and none of them is as you describe. It really is most mysterious.

If this is only a problem with just the one email message then it suggests it is the content of the email causing this.
If it happens on both iPad and Mac then it must be the content.
If it happens with all email messages and is only a problem on your iPad then resolving it requires knowing the version of iOS/iPadOS you have on the iPad. And the OS version you have is?

Tony, thank you so much for your input. You are obviously very intelligent!

It is only a problem with just the one email message (the messages from Eventbrite concerning bookings for Church) – so, as you say, it must be the content that is causing it. I will try going to Eventbrite themselves to see if they can sort it out.

Meanwhile, I still have no rotation control tool (the circular arrow with a padlock inside) and I am wondering if it is simply missing from Big Sur. Has anyone else found this is missing in Control Centre?

There isn’t one on a Mac Gilly, only on iOS and iPadOS devices whose displays can be in either landscape and portrait.

One option is to copy out the text and paste it into TextEdit where it should word wrap or you have the option. A bit of a faff but easier to read!

Hi Gilly

Can you send a screenshot of the email showing it sideways? Push cmd+Shift+4, press the spacebar then click anywhere in the apple mail window, it’ll take a screenshot of the entire mail window to your desktop.
