Good afternoon SMUG!

I have a Samsung Xpress M2022W printer which worked well with my 2011 iMac. I now want use use it with my iPad Pro but the USB fitting is USB A and I need USB3. Is it possible to get a lead like this - or a sort of conversion box / hub / lead? I need to connect the printer with my MacBook or iPad and can’t imagine how to do it.

I am at my wits end - any help would be very much appreciated!!!

Thank you

Andrew Lancaster.

USB-C is a different cable ending rather than a different USB protocol (which can be invisible). If I understand you, you need a USB-C to USB A cable, and those are quite easy to get. Under the metaphorical hood they vary a lot but this sounds quite simple in terms of its demands so as long as it transmits data it should work.

Isn't that one wireless though? It should work over wifi (?)

Cheers,

Jason

Hi Jason. Yes it is WiFi but I can’t make it work ! Apparently if my mobile was a Galaxy it would be simple. But the driver O downloaded doesn’t seem to help my iPhone!

Is the printer on your wifi network? It should just show up as an available printer on the iPad if yes

Hi Sam. It isn’t - and I don’t know to make it so. I shall attempt to get that sorted later. I’m sure it is something I ought to be able to manage but it is totally obscure to me at present.

Is there a WPS button, or a wifi button on the Samsung? Usually you just press, or press & hold that button until something starts flashing on the printer, then press the WPS button on your router and they communicate automatically

As far as I can see there are only two buttons. One is on/off and the other doesn’t seem to do anything.

Try the attached. Press & hold button number 2 on the printer until the status LED blinks quickly, then press the WPS button on your router

Thanks - I will try this. Tomorrow I think as install have to move the printer downstairs to the router. I shall be delighted if it works!

Did you press the WPS button on the broadband router as well? If they’re both in WPS mode then it should be quite quick, within a minute, for both devices to speak to each other

I did that but can’t print … the printer light is not flashing now and the router light went off.

It wanted a name and I put the password for the router. Presumably not the correct thing to do.

What wanted a name? Not sure what you mean sorry. It should just be a case of setting both devices into WPS mode then they’ll communicate automatically.

Perhaps email me off-list so we’re not causing a deluge of messages.
