Hello !

I am doing a project with a NEMA 23 stepper motor that runs continuously, with an arduino, and a Gshield driver (https://synthetos.myshopify.com/products/gshield-v5). I would like to be able to count the steps of the motor since it started and to be able to display this value when I click on a button for example. I have already tried, but I think it is not possible with my driver.

I wanted to know if a "smart stepper" like this one : http://misfittech.net/3-2a-nema23-smart-stepper/ would be able to do that.

Thank you so much,

Regards,

Yes the smart steppers count steps and do a lot more. However you arduino should count steps too.  The difference the smart steppers have is they have feedback to make sure the motor turns the required number of steps.

Thanks for your answer. So I can easly have the feedback of exact position of motor (the number of steps) whenever I want throught arduino ?
I saw on the documentation the category : "position control modes" and so I guess i will have to do some math to reduce the errors, right ?

The smart steppers can return position in degrees, no need for steps.
