Gina,

I don't have any advice for you, but I will say that the slow typing thing is one reason why I use SKY 7 more than SKY 8. I like to use macros to insert standardized hidden notes, but it takes so long for SKY 8 to type them that it messes things up. It does seem curious that this is a recent problem for you; I've experienced it from the beginning, on multiple computers and operating systems.

Hi Gina!

You're not alone. This occasionally happens to me. Shut down your computer for a few minutes (not just restart). That always works for me.

I have no idea why this is happening to you. But I wonder about your autocomplete file. It can't be opened when no index is open. And the darn thing never tells us how many records it has -- though I just discovered/realized we print them. And we can analyze how many are in there that way.

I'm wondering if it got overly fat somehow and that's why your slowed down.

Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions so far.

I completely shut down for 10 minutes and am still having the issue. When I turned the computer back on, I tried SKY with no other programs open and it is still slow. I also took a look at the AutoComplete list and it just as terms from the current index I just started.

I used to have SKY 7, but never on this computer and haven't used it since SKY 8 came out. I did find a demo version of SKY 7 on this computer and am not having the problem there.

I've sent an email to Kamm detailing the issue and everything I've tried along with some recent indexes since the problem started. I will report back if/when he responds.

I work on a laptop all the time and I have to keep it plugged in while using Sky to avoid this typing lag. I don't have such a problem when using other programs, just Sky. Are you having this problem on a laptop?

I’m glad you e-mailed Kamm. I believe SKY 8 has some major problems, one of which is that the program can freeze, and only Kamm can unfreeze it. I know from this list that I’m not the only one who has experienced this problem.

Apparently slow typing can be another problem.

Kamm has seemed unwilling to accept comments about some of these issues—which is why I continue using SKY 7—even though I own SKY 8.

This always happens to me in the Index Pane. I only edit in there, so it’s not a big deal, but it’s always slow to populate the letters as I type. Is it maybe because the index you are working is really big? Or maybe you have a lot of other programs open? I never figured out this problem in the Pane (and just figured it was another quirk of Sky). Maybe this is an issue for Kamm? Let us know if you find anything out, or what worked to fix the issue.

Thanks, Ælfwine! I am having the problem on a laptop and this laptop is pretty much always plugged in. I don't have the problem on my smaller travel laptop, whether it is plugged in or not.

Hi all,

I heard back from Kamm. He could not duplicate the problem with any of the indexes I sent. He sent me a link to the "official" SKY uninstaller, which removes all of the configuration files (I guess just uninstalling myself does not do that). And then I reinstalled and everything is working as expected!

The other suggestion he sent was to create a new user account on my computer and copy my index into the SKY folder for that account. I started the process and that was turning out to be more trouble than I was willing to go through, having to switch back and forth between user accounts, so I ditched that plan and went for the complete uninstall.
