There's no way to generate the index with the labels showing, is there? Font color, type, size, highlight, anything?

I have to cut 1/3 of this index and have been coding a lot of things which should make the culling (a very little) easier, but once I generate the index all my guidance just disappears :(

Thank you,

Rudy Leon

I'm not near my computer but if I recall correctly, you can make the proofing report in alpha order and ask to have the labels remain.

Those are both possibly good options. I wish I could just generate the index as usual, but with labels. I want to see the nests so I can figure out how best to consolidate them.

Deborah, thank you for the filter tip. I've needed that so many times, but had no idea how to do it.

I'm saving all the tips I learn from this group-- one day I will figure out a way to do an advanced SKY webinar that isn't just "hey did you know you could do this and this and this!" and share the wealth of knowledge from this group.

I sure understand how you want to see the nests and can't. But if you filter and print out the generated mini-indexes and assembled them so you can see them on a table... you could compare them to the entire index that you've also printed out. Definitely labor intensive, but it would get it done. Thank all the software gods too that you aren't doing this on index cards (or slips) with no software at all!

“Labeling” can be done without color coding. You can add a suffix to particular entries and group by suffix. Before we had 9 colors, I sometimes did that—and it worked fine.

It is not labor intensive if you add a suffix to certain entries and group. Add a different suffix to other entries and group.

I was just thinking about this -- every time my schedule gets overbooked, I'm spending all my working time kicking myself for not using my time in between jobs learning how to index more efficiently. Are there webinars available online, considering I live overseas and am not able to go to the indexing conferences?
