SKY inconsistency

I swear some days that I have a haunted copy of SKY.

We worked out in Study Group how to generate a selected index,a nd I have tested it in the past, and today it is just refusing to work.

Added to that, I have add al- to the ignore list 3 times (and removed it 3x when it failed to work). I have the check box ticked for using the ignore list and unchecked "not in main heading." I want to ignore sorting on al- in the main heading. Instead, I have a list of 27 names that begin with al- all sitting between Afghanistan and ambush in the index.

I feel like SKY is gaslighting me. Does anyone have any productive thoughts on how to deal with haunted SKY?

Thank you,
Rudy Leon

I don’t know how to deal with the grouping, but putting al- into the ignore list is not the way to go. The ignore list is for whole words, not hyphenated prefixes. Instead, use ignored text (Ctrl + K). You can do a Find and Replace. Search for al- with no special text (I think that’s not the right term that SKY uses but I can’t remember now what it is) and replace with al- in ignored text.

I have no clue about your other issue (in your second email) of being able to paste individual characters but not words containing those characters … unless the designer didn’t use Unicode characters but combined characters? Are you pasting individual characters from the PDF or from somewhere else?

When I’ve had problems of this sort in the past I used the Translation Manager, or in one case I asked the author to provide the last Word manuscript and I was able to copy and paste from it. The author had used Unicode characters but the designer hadn’t.

I wish I had the solution…seems like lately there has been an uptick in issues that none of us can seem to solve! At a certain point, it might be a good idea to contact Sky’s tech support.
